BREATHE THE MEDITERRANEAN WITH CHILDREN: CALM ACTIVITIES

Travelling with family can be an endless source of discoveries — but also of noise, rush, and stress if you don’t choose the right destination. In El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, family tourism follows a different pace: slower, more connected to nature, and focused on shared experiences.

That’s why the activities we propose are simple, accessible and — above all — peaceful.

We are a village to be experienced slowly, as a family, with eyes wide open and the intention to turn time together into lifelong memories. There are no amusement parks or large attractions, but there are places where the simplest moments become extraordinary.

Easy walks to enjoy as a family

The routes of the Respira i Camina project are perfect for walking with children.
They are short, without steep inclines, and full of little details that will catch their attention.

  • Playgrounds: in the town centre, you’ll find two play areas — one in Plaça de les Pesqueres, and the other next to the church of Santa Maria Magdalena, which also includes ramps for scooters and skateboards.

  • Parc de les Fonts: with shade, benches and a circular path, it’s perfect to start the day or rest after a walk. It has open spaces for play, vegetation, and places to sit and eat or read.

  • Pous de l’Abiar: a short route full of opportunities to learn — how people used to live, how water was collected, and why dry-stone walls were so important.

  • Morro de Roabit: a walk that ends with spectacular views, ideal for introducing children to the beauty of silence and landscape. Be cautious at the end of the path: the slope is steep and requires care. This route invites questions about the sea, the mountains, and the local history.

  • Cala del Moraig: to avoid crowds, it’s best to visit outside of July and August. In June and September, the sea temperature is perfect for a swim. In the colder months, enjoying the winter sun and skipping stones by the water is a lovely activity with kids.

Moments to listen to silence

One of the most valuable experiences for a child is discovering the power of silence.
Places like the Portalet Viewpoint or the Cova dels Arcs offer the chance to pause and listen — to the wind, the birds, the sea…

With the guided meditations of the Turisme per a respirar project, you can also introduce kids to calmness and mindfulness, in a way that suits their sensitivity.

Bring a blanket and simply observe the movement of clouds, waves, or shadows. These moments may seem like “doing nothing,” but they open the door to a whole new way of perceiving the world.
They don’t require screens or toys — just a willingness to feel and share.

If they need something more engaging, you can suggest a mindfulness game adapted for them: watching how the air moves in and out of their nose, or identifying five sounds around them.

Discovering nature with curiosity

The surroundings of the village are like an open-air classroom.
With a Mediterranean plant guide, a pair of binoculars, and a notebook, you can spend a lovely time identifying species, tracking animals or sketching the landscape.

The vineyards, stone terraces, rural houses and dirt paths all spark questions — and that’s wonderful, because travelling is not just about seeing, but about understanding.

You can also look for natural treasures — pine cones, leaves, oddly shaped stones — and make a short-lived collection to play with or photograph. Another idea is to start a family nature journal: each person can draw or write something about what they’ve seen, smelled or heard.

Sharing meals in peaceful places

In Benitatxell, you won’t find big shopping centres or restaurants aimed at mass tourism.
But you will find perfect places for a family picnic — under a palm, near an old well, or on a bench overlooking the sea.

Sharing a simple meal in nature is an activity that unites, relaxes and creates memories.Buy some bread, fruit, almonds or cheese from a local shop and enjoy an unhurried break, free from timetables.

You can also pair the picnic with a story time. Bring an illustrated book, invent stories about the places you’ve visited, or imagine what the area looked like 100 years ago — it can be a magical game.

Slow travel is a gift

In Benitatxell, travelling with children doesn’t mean having to plan complicated days.
It means leaving room for boredom, for getting messy with dirt, for walking without a fixed destination.

This is also tourism. And it’s also education.
Calm activities teach us to observe, to wait, to enjoy. And best of all — we learn it without even realising.

When children return from a place like this, what they remember won’t be a theme park, but a moment: a quiet sunset, a round stone found on the path, a shared laugh between dry-stone walls.

So if you’re looking for a place to truly feel the Mediterranean with your children — in a safe, simple, and authentic way — El Poble Nou de Benitatxell is waiting for you. With open paths, clear skies, and calm as your travel companion.
