There are days that are not measured by what you do, but by what you feel. In El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, you can spend a different kind of day, far from the noise, the hurry, and mass tourism. It is an experience designed to reconnect with silence, nature, and yourself. We encourage you to come and breathe the Mediterranean.
The sunrise: starting with light and calm
In the Marina Alta region, locals call “la rompuda del dia” (the breaking of the day) the moment the sun breaks the darkness. A magical instant that you can fully experience in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell at places like Cala del Moraig, Morro del Roabit, or Mirador dels Testos.

These are spots where the day begins with silence, a gentle breeze, and clean light. Bring a thermos with an herbal tea, sit down, and simply observe. Nothing more is needed to start slowing down. Even higher up, the view of the sunrise from the peak of Puig de la Llorença is extraordinary, looking both towards the sea and the interior.
Walking with purpose
The municipality has a network of trails designed for walking calmly, far from the usual crowds of the Costa Blanca. It is not about a sporting challenge, but an invitation to feel present. Paths that lead you through vineyards, dry stone walls (marges de pedra seca), traditional rural buildings (riuraus), and open views of the sea or the mountains.

Heritage with soul
During your walk, you will find places full of history that retain a serene beauty. The Church of Santa María Magdalena, with its stone façade and bells, is a symbol of belonging. Enter if it is open, breathe, and let the silence envelop you. A few metres away, the Jaume Llobell Oratory offers reflection and popular devotion.

From the Mirador del Portalet, the old access to the walled centre, you can gaze at the vineyards and the Mediterranean. And as you walk through the historic centre, notice the traditional houses: small windows, wooden doors, rough stone (pedra tosca) arches, and whitewashed walls. Every element whispers a story if you know how to listen.
Silence, inside and out
If you have never meditated, this is a good place to start. You don’t need experience. Just look for a quiet corner: under a carob tree, on a rock, or on a margin between vines. Sit down, breathe deeply, and listen: the wind, the birds, the insects. Perhaps your thoughts too.

Just 10 minutes is enough to feel a change. The body relaxes, the mind calms down. To begin, you can visit the five marked meditation spots from the project “Turismo para respirar” (Tourism for Breathing):
Cala del Moraig
Morro del Roabit
Mirador del Portalet
Parque de les Fonts
Pous de l’Abiar
Each spot has signage and QR codes with guided meditations in Valencian, Spanish, and English at: www.turismeperarespirar.com
Simple Eating
Although there is not a huge offer of traditional restaurants, you can enjoy local cuisine in a simple and authentic way. Bring a sandwich, seasonal fruit, and water, and have a picnic at Parque de les Fonts or Mirador dels Testos. Eating slowly is another form of meditation.

You can also try a good Valencian esmorzaret (mid-morning snack) at one of the village bars: generous sandwiches, Traditional coques, a tapa featuring broad beans (faves) from El Poble Nou, peanuts, olives, coffee, or a cold beer. It is a deeply rooted tradition, a way to celebrate the morning with flavour and share a moment with the local people.
When day ends
As the afternoon arrives, we recommend going up to Pous de l’Abiar or any elevated point where you can watch the sunset. There is nothing to do, just be. Watch how the light changes, how the sky is tinged with soft colours. It is an intimate moment that demands nothing but presence.
Let the day end without trying to hold onto it. It is the natural close to a day of calm and connection.

A day to remember who you are
El Poble Nou de Benitatxell does not offer adrenaline or spectacles. It offers space, time, and peace. A perfect day is not the one fullest of activities, but the one that brings you back to yourself.
Thank you for coming to breathe the Mediterranean.
